Tunisia is one of the Arabian Maghreb countries ( which includes beside Tunisia:
Morocco and Algeria), and its capital city is
Tunis. It is located in the center of the Mediterranean
Sea and it represents a linking spot between the world of Arab, Africa and
Europe. Since ancient times, the Tunisian society has been known for
its openness to its external surroundings and to the different civilized
tributaries. Its area is 163.610 Km2, with an estimated population of 10.4
million. The official language of
Tunisia
is Arabic, in addition to the use of
French language for the matters of trading. Tunisia was liberated from French
colonialism in March 20, 1956. Tunisia is characterized by being a touristic
country, where there are touristic resorts, fertile lands, spectacular
landscapes, and precious historical treasures. Tunisia is also well-known for
citrus fruits and other agricultural products. In addition to the export of
agricultural products, chemical substances, clothes, while from its natural
resources; oil, phosphate, iron, lead and salt.
Until
nowadays, it is one of the oldest Islamic cities, which is the most reverent and
respective one. Especially, thanks to Al-Zaytuna Mosque which was built by the
companion of the prophet Uqba Ibn Nafi. These historical periods were
distinguished by the emergence of many scientists, writers and intellectuals
like Ibn Khaldun, the famous historian and the pioneer of modern sociology, who
left a heritage that still has an impact to this day. Education always comes to
be the first priority for Tunisians. And more than 20% of the overall budget of
the state is being allocated for this sector; in fact this is the highest
percentage in the whole world. Education in

Tunisia is considered to be a meeting place for many
civilizations that have been mixed on its land, and interacted to form a mixture
of cultures. It has always marked by its abundant cultural activities and its
valuable contributions to civilization. The museums, landmarks and the existed
cultural institutions witness on this glorified past. Besides, the variety of
international festivals that are held to contribute to the enrichment of the
Tunisian culture and supporting its influence inside the country and abroad.

Carthage which receives the most famous
artists in the world. The Tunisian museums include invaluable masterpieces of
the heritage of numerous civilizations. In recognition of Tunisia for paying attention to cultural development, and due to the
richness of its cultural heritage and the importance of its contribution to
humanitarian civilization, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural organization (UNESCO) has chosen Tunisia to be a regional cultural
capital in 1997.
